Belleville’s Highland Neighborhood

Forest Drive in Belleville's Highland NeighborhoodThe Highland Neighborhood is one of Belleville’s oldest neighborhoods. It is bordered by East Main Street, Carlyle Avenue, McClintock Avenue and Mascoutah Avenue.  It is made up of nearly 600 mostly single-family homes just east of Belleville historic Downtown. Most of the homes are early 20th Century homes although quite a few date back to the 1800’s.

Families in the Highland neighborhood enjoy the close proximity to Downtown Belleville and the many events that take place regularly both on the square and on East and West Main Streets. There is always something going on within walking distance from Bellevillle’s Highland Neighborhood. Residents enjoy the many parades that happen several times a year, Art on the Square, repeatedly rated the Nations #1 Art Show an evening out shopping and dining at the many restaurants and pubs that are all within walking distance.

The neighborhood also has ample green space in the form of East End Park a beautiful park featuring lush greenery, tennis courts and a children’s playground.

The Metrolink Bicycle and Walking Path runs through the Highland Neighborhood allowing residents to enjoy exercise along miles and miles of beautiful, winding, paved and well-maintained path. Each year thousands of cyclists whizz through the neighborhood and neighbors join the revery of the annual Tour d’Belleville bike ride.

Neighbors in the quiet neighborhood are organized into the Highland Neighborhood Association, which functions as an organizer of neighborhood watches and publications such as the Highland Neighborhood Organization Newsletter as well as events. The Highland Neighborhood Organization holds its quarterly meetings at Douglas Elementary School.
